Is black to 'winter-like' to wear to the Derby? Can I wear black in my dress and hat or is that way to dark for May?

I thought of a great idea while I was researching tips to make my own Derby hat. I am thinking I am going to make my hat without flowers and order some single lilies from the local florist. I will pick them up Derby morning and attach them that day. They should last the day on my hat and smell amazing.

I have been looking into making my own hat this year for the Kentucky Derby. With the way the economy is, I just can not allow myself to go and buy a $500.00 hat. Instead I have been getting in touch with my creative side. I suggest buying artificial flowers to decorate the hat. If I think of anything else I will be sure to comment back.
